Cultured Marble

Cultured marble is a “reproduction” of natural marble similar to the cultured pearl as compared to the natural pearl. Cultured marble is made of approximately 75% crushed and ground white quarried marble and 25% polyester resin. These marble fillers and resins are chemically bonded which allow them to be molded into an infinite variety of shapes and sizes.

For decades, cultured marble has been the most popular choice in bathrooms over plastic laminate or tile due to its rich visual texture, durability, ease of maintenance, and affordability. Cultured marble features a high gloss finish that is a result of casting the polyester/marble mixture into highly polished molds which have been coated with a clear gel-coat finish. This gel-coat is a special polyester resin that provides a sanitary as well as a hard smooth shiny surface covering for the marble mixture. Cultured marble is solid to the touch and it weighs approximately the same as natural marble. Vanity tops with integral bowls, for example, are cast in one solid piece with no seams, no grout lines, and no caulk joints. Therefore, cultured marble reduces the possibility of leaks, mildew growth, and stains thus making cleaning easier and less frequent.

Cultured marble is most commonly cast into sanitary bathroom fixtures:

  • Vanity tops with integral bowls
  • Bathtubs
  • Shower and tub walls
  • Shower floors
